Valkyre

in a dark alley
she walked past the flesh peddlers pondering career choices
where they celebrate Concussion day
a holiday of head wounds and miscarriages
further down the parking lot strip
she slipped in the slime coming out of the mouths of used cars
eating wild west burgers amongst the cavemen
where the food moves faster than the appetite
she watched the rodeo at a steakhouse
as a bartender put white trash bags into a dumpster
fat Albert and his brothers played with bones
laughing louder and louder as the boys tried to be men
she sang a song to these strangers
and caught a cab from Israel to another corner of the world
she fell asleep murmuring mental notes
perhaps tomorrow she will buy that stun gun
and feel safe in the dark alley
she calls home
